Handout Baskets

Nice baskets the perfect size for standard copy paper found at Dollar Tree.

Some time ago, I ran across some great, stackable, plastic baskets that were the perfect size for standard 8.5×11″ paper. They were available at Dollar Tree and, though not really worth a dollar each, still a good deal for the purpose. I bought all they had and went back for more later. The store promptly stopped carrying them regularly. I checked in whenever convenient and never found them again. Over the years, a few have developed broken slats so it would be nice to be able to replace them.

Recently, I found these very similar baskets (red). They are slightly lighter weight but the angled sides allow them to stack more compactly. They can be stacked and shuffled when empty or with papers in them.

These are great baskets if you go easy on them. I don’t think they would do well to hold reams of paper due to the light weight. I’ll typically load them with 75-140 sheets. Considering the large openings, it’s hard to imagine a use for them other than holding papers. The only thing that would make them better is if they were a bundle of 2 or even 4 for a dollar. If I had a large number of these, I could envision doing away with my crate/hanging folder system and permanently organizing and storing handouts in these baskets. A stack of seven baskets might support one project while another stack of three baskets hold all I need for another activity.
